  1. Job Overview

This is a customer facing role, leading projects for our customers around the world, working as part of a UK-based team of ~25 application consultants.

The role is focussed on project management and requirements analysis. The candidate should have knowledge and experience of sample management within the industry.

  1. Responsibilities

2.1 Software Implementations

The successful candidate will:

· Manage small and large projects, following project management best practice and reporting to senior management

· Gain a good knowledge of the functionality and detailed workings of product suite

· Work with customers to analyse their sample management processes; understand and interpret requirements; elaborate new requirements; document the recommended configuration, proposing the best fit; and plan the implementation of that configuration

· Not just understand and document but also elaborate and interpret, propose the best fit against solution but also suggest where we need to elaborate new requirements

· Be the primary customer contact during the analysis, installation, and acceptance testing of a project

· Work closely with the technical team assigned to the project during the configuration, deployment and UAT phases

· Work closely with the Support group during the installation, deployment, and warranty phases to ensure smooth transition from project to production

· Oversee on-site installations and upgrades, carry out integration testing, and the troubleshooting with hardware (liquid handlers, barcode printers, automated stores, etc.)

· Develop, organise and deliver customer training

· Provide guidance to customer on the migration of existing data

2.2 Sales Support

As a smaller part of the role, the successful candidate will:

· Be a subject matter expert and product evangelist

· Create and support presentation of product demos in a sales support role

· Participate in sales support activities for customer presentations requiring the presence of a technical product expert

· As necessary, participate in sales support activities as an exhibit/conference booth attendant

2.3 General

The successful candidate will:

· Maintain an active, visible, ongoing, and excellent working relationship with customers

· Provide, organize and maintain communication to the Software Configuration and Software Development groups based on customer feedback and reported issues

o Highlight changes that could be made to eliminate/alleviate customer support and application installation issues

o Provide input for ongoing product development and process improvement based on customer feedback

· Demonstrate personal time management throughout the year by delivering work to agreed deadlines:

    • Provide estimates for personal work, and stick to those estimates
    • Follow Project Management processes
    • Keep Project Manager informed of progress / issues
    • Make suggestions for solutions and/or workarounds
    • Possibly, make use of MS Project or other task / time management tools
    • Occasionally need to adopt flexible working hours, e.g. to support West Coast customers
  • Report into an Application Consultant Team Leader

· Need to travel, possibly up to 30% of the time, to customer sites  across the world (mainly Europe)

  1. Key Job Skills

§ Degree educated in a scientific or technical discipline

· Relevant life science / pharmaceutical industry experience; preferably in Drug Discovery or Clinical Research

· Strong familiarity with sample management operations and systems

· Management of implementation projects in the life sciences industry

· A technical background in automation, software, research informatics, engineering or other relevant area

· Strong, excellent, proven customer relationship skills

· Proficient with Windows of MS Office (including MS Project)

· Good time estimation, task switching and prioritisation skills; ability to plan personal work load to meet varying multiple project or task deadlines

· Excellent internal and external verbal and written communication skills

· Excellent work ethic, both alone and as part of a team

· Show initiative and innovation; be solution-focused

· Ability to work well in remote, non-supervised customer locations
