- To support the development & delivery of IT services for Pathology First and direct support to the Pathology First IT Operations Manager
- To ensure a quality service delivery ensuring quality standards and key performance indicators are met.
- To provide a level of theoretical and practical IT System knowledge to the laboratory service
- To support the IT Operations Manager in ensuring that all areas of responsibility comply with all relevant current and future legislation.
- To continue with personal development through academic or practical experience.
- To gain a detailed knowledge of the pathology IT systems and their reporting components, and to achieve a thorough understanding of the system’s operational and reporting capabilities and to act as the Subject Matter Expert for these systems
- Be a System Administrator for the laboratory information system (LIMS)
- Train selected staff across pathology on how to use the allocated IT systems, issue user names and passwords, and also provide support by phone and email.
- Provide specific advice on laboratory IT systems to users of the laboratory service.
- To troubleshoot pathology IT System problems on a day to day basis.
- Report all IT related incidents and adverse events to senior staff and to the relevant Service Desk in a timely manner.
- Investigate all IT incidents and adverse events conducting a root cause analysis and remedial action as required.
- Produce standard operating procedures (SOPs) and information sheets relating to the various IT system where required and utilise Q-Pulse quality management system to manage this documentation
- Ensure all IT system documentation provided by suppliers is recorded and maintained in the Q-Pulse quality management system
- Provide leadership for current system updates and maintenance, including test sign off of pathology IT systems as required.
- Provide leadership and subject matter expertise for future pathology IT System developments such as additional interfaces and middleware enhancements
- Plan and undertake audits in area of responsibility to fulfil UKAS requirements.
- Undertake extraction of data from systems to enable monitoring of key performance and quality indicators (KPIs).

- Communicate efficiently, courteously and with clarity at all times, whether face to face, telephone or electronic methods referring enquiries to senior staff where appropriate. Matters being communicated may include test results.
- Attend and participate positively in laboratory and other meetings as directed by the IT Operations Manager
- Encourage active participation in continuous professional development and support the introduction of new systems by being a change advocate, and active mentor and a tutor to junior staff.
- Provide management, training and professional leadership to staff in your area of responsibility, this includes monitoring their performance and system usage against laboratory SOPS.
- Demonstrate on going CPD (continuous professional development) activities.
- Ensure that LIMS systems are maintained in accordance with ISO 15189:2012 standards and other regulatory accreditations.
- Lead/Chair Change Advisory Board (CAB) for pathology IT Systems change control process
- Responsible for reporting notifiable disease data to National Governing Bodies e.g Secondary Generation Support Services (SGSS)
- Work alongside Clinical Departmental Leads to align Pathology IT Systems to clinical requirements e.g. Test Codes, Rules, Report format etc
