Microbiology Biomedical Scientist

Perform routine and specialist microbiological investigations, including bacteriology, virology, mycology, parasitology, and toxicology as applicable

Culture, isolate, identify, and perform susceptibility testing on clinically significant organisms using manual and automated methods

Process and analyse clinical and environmental specimens, ensuring accurate interpretation and timely reporting of results

Operate, maintain, and troubleshoot microbiology and toxicology laboratory instrumentation, including analysers and middleware

Apply and maintain compliance with UKAS/ISO 15189, COSHH, health & safety, and infection control standards

Contribute to quality control, EQA participation, audits, and method validation activities

Work collaboratively with clinicians and laboratory teams to support diagnostic interpretation and patient management

Maintain accurate LIMS documentation, data integrity, and support training or supervision of junior staff where required
