We are seeking an experienced Data Architect to play a pivotal role in a major NHS Oracle Health (Cerner) Electronic Patient Record (EPR) implementation programme. This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to a large-scale digital transformation initiative that will enhance patient care, clinical workflows, operational efficiency, and data-driven decision-making across the organisation.
The successful candidate will be responsible for defining and governing the data architecture required to support the implementation, integration, migration, and ongoing optimisation of the Oracle Health (Cerner) platform. Working closely with clinical, operational, technical, and programme stakeholders, you will ensure that data is structured, governed, migrated, and integrated effectively across the healthcare ecosystem.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and maintain the enterprise data architecture supporting the Oracle Health (Cerner) EPR implementation.
- Develop data models, standards, and architecture principles aligned with NHS Digital and organisational strategies.
- Lead the data migration strategy, including source system analysis, data mapping, transformation, cleansing, validation, and reconciliation activities.
- Define and oversee data governance frameworks, ensuring compliance with NHS data standards, GDPR, DSPT, and information governance requirements.
- Collaborate with integration architects and technical teams to design interfaces between Oracle Health and connected systems.
- Establish master data management principles for patient, workforce, clinical, and operational datasets.
- Support the development of reporting, analytics, and population health data capabilities.
- Provide architectural leadership for interoperability initiatives including HL7, FHIR, and other healthcare data standards.
- Work closely with programme leadership to identify data-related risks, dependencies, and mitigation strategies.
- Ensure data quality standards are embedded throughout the implementation lifecycle.
- Support testing activities, including system integration testing, user acceptance testing, and migration rehearsals.
- Produce and maintain architecture artefacts, data dictionaries, data lineage documentation, and governance documentation.
Essential Skills and Experience
- Significant experience as a Data Architect within large-scale healthcare or public sector transformation programmes.
- Proven experience delivering Oracle Health (Cerner) EPR implementations, upgrades, or optimisation programmes.

- Experience designing and delivering complex data migration programmes.
- Expertise in data architecture frameworks, methodologies, and best practices.
- Strong knowledge of healthcare interoperability standards including HL7, FHIR, DICOM, and SNOMED CT.
- Experience with data integration technologies and enterprise integration patterns.
- Knowledge of data governance, data quality management, metadata management, and master data management.
- Excellent stakeholder engagement and communication skills.
- Ability to translate complex technical concepts into business-friendly language.
Desirable Skills
- Experience with Oracle Health reporting and analytics solutions.
- Familiarity with NHS Spine services and national data standards.
- Experience with cloud-based data platforms and modern analytics architectures.
