PACS Administrator Jobs in the UK

In the PACS market, most roles are contract – especiallyi n the UK. Consultants, programmers, and the like are usually involved for implementation projects or for upgrades, without much time spent beyond that narrow remit. However, PACS administrator jobs in the UK tend to be permanent placements. What makes them stand out?

Understanding PACS Administrator Jobs in the UK
Along with some developers, PACS administrators tend to work in permanent roles because they look after the ongoing success of the system.

It’s not unfair to say that they function as an interface between the system and the organisation it supports. Many technical roles have an unofficial ‘translator’ duty where the translation is between technical jargon and the day-to-day understanding of most staff. In this case, it’s not so much technical jargon as, simply, the inner workings of the system itself!

The most important question an administrator can answer will always start “So, can the system…” because that understanding of such a powerful, flexible system’s capabilities is a learned skill.

It’s therefore rare (but not unheard of) for PACS administrators to work remotely. Those who do have to have not just strong communication skills – they have to be flat-out excellent at understanding others and at giving clear, easily-understood answers. The extra constraints of communicating over email, work chat systems, and voice calls place an additional challenge which pushes that further.

These skills are highly important but, of course, they’re not the primary skill involved. The candidate must have extensive familiarity with the specific PACS system you’ll be using. They may well be the only permanent staff member who has that familiarity, and they’ll effectively serve as first-line support and diagnostic understanding. Typically, they’re expected to assume ownership of PACS-related responsibilities.

Finding a candidate with the right mix of experience in your area is always a challenge, even in areas where the digital health industry is well-developed. While the candidates exist, at any given time most of them are not available – and those that are don’t bother with the traditional job boards where they may be drowned out.

Instead, qualified candidates for PACS administrator jobs, in the UK, put their time to use networking, with other PACS workers and with recruitment consultants, who they then trust to have their ear to the ground for them.

This puts our team in perfect position to find candidates we can pre-qualify against your requirements. Contact us today and we’ll be happy to discuss your job spec and assemble a shortlist of the most appropriate candidates.
