Case Study: LIMS Project Manager

As recruiters, we specialise in placing LIMS specialists on a contract and permanent basis throughout the United Kingdom and Ireland. Here is a Case Study we'd like to share with you about a successful candidate placement within the LIMS market.

One of our clients had recently landed a deal with another client of theirs, meaning that they had multiple LIMS projects in the pipeline. This market leading pharmaceutical company were in urgent of a LIMS Project Manager with Sample Management experience who could hit the ground running. In this role, the successful candidate would be responsible for the delivery of each project deployment, overseeing a team of developers, business analysts and other technical laboratory staff.

In a candidate-shy market, recruiters have difficulty finding talent from entry level roles through to more senior level roles. In recruitment, the greater the niche the harder the position is to fill. My client had originally tried to source a candidate internally before widening their search outside their organisation. After advertising for the role in the active market, they found that there were no suitable candidates to fill their requirements. At this point, the client employed our services to find the right candidate.

Being a recruiter, we operate in the active market and the passive market. We have access to those potential candidates who are either toying with the idea of contracting, not happy in their current contract (but not actively looking) or are nearing the end of their contract but not yet applying. The reason these candidates are known to the good recruiters out there is because we develop relationships with skilled professionals and ensure we keep in communication.

Having spoken to multiple candidates, we found a hugely experienced PM with all the relevant experience looking for 3 days a week, as a contractor. This candidate was looking for a change to a role more aligned with their current circumstance, switching from a permanent position to contracting. They required a salary increase that meant they were paid more than their current annual salary if they were to work 5 days a week.

Despite initially wanting someone full-time, the client re-considered their objectives with the market options presented and were impressed by the candidate’s skill level and experience. In the interview process, the client subsequently agreed that a 3-day week was acceptable as the candidate had exceeded their expectations.

Following on from their initial placement, the partnership continued to be successful. Due to the huge success of the initial project, the candidate went on to have multiple extensions heading other LIMS implementations with the same organisation.

Ensuring that we find the right opportunity for a candidate is essential to the service that we provide.
