Digital Programme Director

Role Overview

We are looking for an experienced Interim Digital Programme Director to provide senior leadership across a portfolio of complex digital transformation programmes within an NHS organisation.

The successful candidate will take overall responsibility for the delivery, governance and strategic direction of major digital programmes, working closely with the CDIO, CIO, Digital Board, clinical leadership and senior stakeholders to ensure programmes are delivered safely, effectively and against agreed benefits.

This is a senior leadership position requiring someone who can operate confidently at Board and Executive level, whilst maintaining sufficient delivery oversight to challenge programme teams, manage risk and intervene where required.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide strategic leadership and direction across a portfolio of major digital transformation programmes.
• Lead the delivery of complex, high-value digital programmes from mobilisation through to implementation and benefits realisation.
• Work closely with the CDIO/CIO and Executive Team to establish programme priorities, governance and delivery plans.
• Provide clear reporting to Digital Boards, Programme Boards and Trust executives.
• Own programme-level risks, issues, dependencies, financial controls and delivery assurance.
• Ensure appropriate programme governance, methodology and reporting structures are embedded.
• Lead and coordinate multiple programme workstreams, ensuring dependencies are actively managed.
• Provide senior-level oversight of EPR, clinical systems, digital infrastructure and wider transformation programmes, where relevant.
• Work closely with clinical, operational and technical stakeholders to ensure digital change delivers measurable improvements.
• Lead suppliers and third-party delivery partners, challenging performance and ensuring contractual commitments are met.
• Oversee programme financial management, resource planning and commercial considerations.
• Ensure appropriate consideration is given to clinical safety, information governance, cyber security and NHS digital standards.
• Drive benefits realisation and ensure programmes remain focused on measurable organisational outcomes.
• Provide leadership during major implementations, go-lives and periods of significant organisational change.
• Identify areas where programmes are off track and implement appropriate recovery strategies.
